For the Chronically Mentally Ill,

A Good Home Can Be Hard To Find.

A Family Care Home, or FCH, is the next step down from an ACF. In an FCH, the mentally ill actually usually do live in a family style home, and frequently live with a family of caregivers. In addition, there are usually a smaller number of individuals (2-8) living in such a facility. Staffing is usually not 24 hours a day. In the past, when Buckeye Family has run such facilities, it provided 24 hour staffing, usually from a central location with several or more FCH's on a common campus. These facilities are less expensive, frequently surviving on residents' resources, which is a problem. Specifically, because they are cheaper, agencies and boards that pay a subsidy will frequently prefer such a facility even when an individual needs a higher level of care.
