Our residents do not come to us with simple, isolated or "easy" problems, and we don't offer simple, isolated, or "easy" answers. Rather, we offer a total therepeutic environment, life style, and philosophy of life through our therapeutic milieu. Our care is continious, ongoing, and encompasses virtually every aspect of our residents' lives. We really do believe in the effectiveness and power of the therapeutic milieu, interpersonal relationships, and real caring and concern for our residents. While psychotherapy, chemotherapy with psychoative medications, and casework are part of our programs, we consider our most potent process for change to be our management of the therapeutic milieu combined with appropriate behavior modification and management, and a subculture and value system that emphasizes problem solving, effective communication, coping, and self-help skills, consistent with those of various self-help groups, such as Emotions Anonysous (EA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). We emphasize the development and management of a therapeutic environment in which psychological, social, and behavioral interventions are directed at achieving positive change. Our staff, residents, and volunteers have created a therapeutic community where our residents are treated like family and in the most positive manner possible. We try to help each individual feel he or she belongs to our family and to feel comfortable and at ease in "our" home. We support our residents in their medical, nursing, psychological, social, and spiritual needs by providing trained and experienced staff, highly trained specialists in the various professions and rehabilitation through physical, social, and activity programming, and each resident is encouraged to become a productive member of "our family" and the community at large. We have found that a significant number of our residents improve and move to less restrictive, and more independent, environments each year. |
